The Lions show our Pride with the Self-Help Food Bank

Our association, over a month ago, raised $595 and 1200 lbs of food for the Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank. I wanted you all to know that a donation that size does not get taken lightly. I was asked to take part in a Ceremony to kick off their 20th annual Stuff-A-Bus campaign. It is intended to raise donations for the Christmas season which is so hard on so many families.

We did a very good thing. Please See below. Way to go Lions!!! And by all means, for those of you who are able to please support needy families through this program. the bus is located at the Zehrs behind Cambridge Mall.

2014 Board gets Started

The Board had it’s first meeting with all members in attendance.

Big Welcome to new Members Geoff Little (VP), Steve Schroder (Treas), Stephanie Fleury(Secy) and Kevin Delaney(Marketing). I know each of them will do a fantastic job.

The biggest obstacle we have, both as a Board and as an Association, is the new legislation covering “Not-For-Profits” in Ontario. This will prove to be a challenge, but we have struck a 5 member sub-committee to tackle this problem. Several of the committee members are tackling these issues already with other groups, so we have a good knowledge base to get started. I will keep you updated  how this will affect our Board Meetings, our AGMs and our whole Association.

Meanwhile if you need some light reading, this is what I’m referring to: http://www.sse.gov.on.ca/mcs/en/pages/not_for_profit.aspx

It’s a whole lot of hullabaloo which is meant to protect us all, as volunteers.

I’m sure once we get into it, we will be fine.

IN THE MEANTIME, IF ANY OF OUR MEMBERS ARE LAWYERS AND WOULD LIKE TO VOLUNTEER FOR OUR COMMITTEE AND OFFER SOME FREE LEGAL ADVICE, DON’T BE AFRAID TO CONTACT ANY OF OUR BOARD MEMBERS!

Have a Great Week!

Go Lions!!!

Could this work for the Lions?

A little bit of fun here. Not that any of us would really try this, but it is an interesting principle for this Coach. Lost in his statistics is the fact that he has a Powerhouse system within his league. Kids come to his school because it IS a powerhouse. If he ever had a year where his team was to even go .500, his statistics go right out the window.

Nonetheless, it’s always fun to watch and consider new ideas! Please follow the link

By the way, Congrats to longtime Lion James Roberts. The Doug Shuh award winner this year for the MVP in Senior Football for WCSSAA. Players and people like you, make us all proud James

Well, the Ball has been handed over to the new Board for 2014

Well, the Ball has been handed over to the new Board for 2014

With our 1st meeting in less than a week, the new Board is off and running. We have many new issues to face, as well as, some old league issues that continue to raise their heads. Our recruiting borders are now open and we are preparing for our numbers to swell, which is the early indication. Stay tuned as I will endeavour to keep everyone up to date on Association happenings, on field results, off field events and hopefully some of the lighter and brighter moments that happen around Cambridge Lions Football.
